A List

Since my sleep deprivation has reached an all-time high (or low?) this week, I’m not going to attempt anything too deep or spiritual for this post. Instead I’ll share a simple gratitude list, mostly to remind myself how many blessings God has poured into my life. Feel free to read along.

Thank you God for:

Making known to me the path of life. Isn’t it amazing to know that regardless of what happens, when we put our faith in Jesus He promises He’ll never leave us? Even if the whole world falls apart and the mountains crumble into the sea, we can still count on God to take care of us.

– Giving me a godly husband who says, “I’ll rock Autumn to sleep tonight. You go take a bath.” And, “Please wake me up if you’re having a rough night with her,” like it’s no big deal. I keep telling him not every guy handles fatherhood the way he does. He is the easiest person to love.

– My three miracle babies, growing up together in a nice little pack. Hopefully they’ll be buddies now who turn into lifelong friends.

– Faithful friends. Like Brandi, who has five of her own kids, but agreed to watch all three of mine last week when I desperately needed the help. She didn’t even make me feel bad when Autumn cried 40 straight minutes (yikes!) after I dropped her off. I hope I can return the favor soon.

– Disposable diapers. I deal with a lot of OPP (as in, Other People’s Poop) these days. If you use cloth diapers for your babies, wow. I have so much respect for you. I think it’s the better choice in many ways and I seriously considered switching to cloth for Autumn. But oh my heavens, I’m thankful I didn’t. I am well past what I can handle at the moment and lately whenever I wrap up a diaper and toss it in the trash can in the garage, I think about how much more overwhelmed I’d be if instead I had to rinse it out, soak it, wash it, and put it away.

– The summer sunshine. I wouldn’t call myself a beachy kind of girl. Not at all. I’ll take a pea coat and jeans over shorts and flip-flops any day. But when the nights are long, the bright morning sun is a relief.

– My subscription to People magazine. My mom, who is one of the deepest, most spiritually mature women I know, bought it for me as a Mother’s Day gift. And I am not ashamed to admit that I get excited when I pull the mail out of its box on Friday afternoons. It’s okay to have a little fluff in our lives, right?

– July—vacation month! We’re going up north to spend time with my family in Michigan. We leave in two and a half weeks, woo hoo! I know that if anything Autumn’s sleep will get worse when we leave home, but I’m counting down anyway. I have the best family ever.

You know, now that I’ve started it, my thankful list could probably go on and on. I might even feel less tired now…
